“When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” Ayurvedic proverb
What is health coaching?
It is a dialogue and a partnership between you and I. I listen to your concerns, goals, values and beliefs about what is and what is not possible. We look at where you are, where you would like to be, what is getting in the way of your getting there and how to remove those roadblocks. I invite you to step out of your comfort zone and grow through action, accountability and follow-through. I mentor and guide you by helping you devise, integrate and implement positive, sustainable changes, given your specific challenges and lifestyle.
Coaching is future oriented and is not about fixing. It is about improving. Setbacks will occur. It is part of the process and a key learning opportunity for self-awareness, clarity and insight. Perceived failures are merely feedback, allowing you to find a better way to reach your goals! Coaching holds no right or wrong approach. You are naturally creative, resourceful and whole. You are the expert on yourself! You set the agenda.
If there is a gap between where you are now and where you want to be, then health coaching will help you. Why struggle on your own when you can be where you want to be in a fraction of the time with the help, structure, support, and tools of a skilled health coach? Olympic athletes train with the added insight, objective perspective and enthusiastic support of an athletic coach. Successful executives, professionals, and entrepreneurs use the services of a life coach to take their lives, careers, and/or businesses to the next step. “Everyone needs a coach.” Says Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
Where do I coach?
Sessions may be in person, over the phone, FaceTime or Skype. All sessions are confidential.
How do you get started?
With a free Health History consultation. Download my Health History form or fill it out online and let’s schedule 30-45 minutes to discuss your health history, your main health concerns, what you want to change, accomplish and why. Knowing why a goal is important to you makes it more attainable and sustainable. The purpose of the consultation is for me to ask you questions, get to know you, understand what is going on for you so that I can share how I might be able to help you, see if we are a good fit or point you in the right direction.
How is health coaching different from working with a dietitian or nutritionist?
I break food down into two categories, your “primary foods” and your “secondary foods.” Your “secondary food” is generally anything that goes into your mouth. Your “primary foods” are your career, your spirituality, your physical activity and your relationships. Whenever there is an imbalance in one food group, there is generally an imbalance in another food category. We examine all areas of your life to help you reach your goals.
For whom is health coaching not for?
You are not coachable if (1) you are not ready or motivated to change behavior in your life, try new things or do things that may make you feel uncomfortable; (2) you are stuck in your “story;” and/or (3) you do not prioritize yourself or your health. Successful health coaching is about you showing up for yourself.
What health coaching is not. I do not diagnose, treat or cure any disease, condition or other physical or mental ailment of the human body. I do not act in the capacity of a doctor, licensed dietician-nutritionist, psychologist or other licensed or registered functional medicine practitioner.
“Man surprised me most about humanity. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.” Dalai Lama
